Article Title: Fracking
Author: Chris Mooney
Keypoints:
- Fracking releases natural gases
- Natural gases could put a risk into our drinking water
- New technique for drilling called Directional
- Directional can turn the drill 90 degrees
- The U.S has 827 trillion cubic feet of gas
- This is enough to last for a decade
- Huge ponds or tanks are needed for flowback water
- large amount of water is needed for directional drilling
- Drilling companies have access to 85% of state portions
- 4 million gallons of water is needed for a single lateral
- 15000-16000 of chemicals are needed
- 75% of water blasted down coming back up
- Toxic water is stored on site
- Water in some states are foul or are ignited
- EPA orders companies to provide clean water to its victimes
- Gas migrates from fracking shell
Summary:
Fracking is a way of getting natural gas to use as a power source. This method includes drilling and millions
of gallons of water. The water is released into the tunnels of the drilling then releasing the gas. The U.S is said to have
827million cubic feet of gas from this technique. The problem with this is that people the natural gases get into the
drinking water of the nearby residents. This causes the water to be ignitable and dangerous. Another problem is that it
it requires a large amount of water to be executed in the first place.
My thoughts:
I think that their should be more education about fracking. This can make people aware of their water quality
before it's too late. If their water quality becomes contaminated with the gas, they will not only get affected but
everyone else around where they live will be also. Though regulations are set, not everyone follows the rules. It is
important that we should be cautious as well.

So what?Contaminated water can cause serious effects on us and can also be ignitable.

Says who?Says the residents affected, EPA, and Chris Mooney
|
What if?What if natural gas was not harmful to us, would it be harmful to the rest of the environment?
|
This reminds me of...This reminds me of the movie "The Core" as they are also drilling.
