Main Idea: Coal mining endangers over 500 confirmed species.
This article displays how recent findings of a large variety of insects are already about to be endangered. One of these species is the weta species. These are probably one of the largest grasshopper species but in return for their size, their ability to jump is taken. The area in which these species inhabit shows to have enough coal to heighten their coal exports by 63%. If they are to continue in this mining, the entire habitat of the insects could be destroyed.
My choice in this article is to show how even the life of the smallest things should be just as important as our need for resources. Our need for resources always comes with a price. The extinction of an entire species, however, should not be questioned. Animals and insects both have a right to live on this planet peacefully as we do.
The tragedy of the commons is happening everywhere. Not only are the natural resources are reducing in quantity, but everything around the mining and searching for these resources are being disturbed as well. Our choices about what we do for these resources are not thoughtful because of the thought that resources are plentiful. We can help stop the tragedy by doing many things. One of them is recycle. Another one related to recycling is to use old items instead of buying new ones.
